At various times during the academic year, the Beaver Press holds printing workshops that are open to all members of the MIT community, including faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students. Shop assistants trained in letterpress printing assist workshop participants in setting type, printing, and cleanup. Attendees are asked to bring a text of not more than 150 characters, including spaces between words.
Space is limited, so we ask that you sign up in advance. We will not be holding workshops in Summer 2018, but we hope to offer them again during the 2018-2019 academic year. Please check back in early September 2018 to see our fall workshop schedule.
We are also occasionally able to host small groups from educational institutions outside of MIT, including middle schools and high schools, who wish to try their hand at letterpress printing. Please e-mail MIT History Professor Jeffrey Ravel, one of the Press’s co-directors, to inquire about an educational visit to the Beaver Press.
