At various times during the academic year, the Beaver Press holds printing workshops that are open to all members of the MIT community, including faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate students. Shop assistants trained in letterpress printing assist workshop participants in setting type, printing, and cleanup. Attendees are asked to bring a text of not more than 150 characters, including spaces between words.
Space is limited, so we ask that you sign up in advance. We will not be holding workshops during the Fall 2018 term, but we hope to offer them again over IAP (January 2019). Please check back in December or early January to see our IAP workshop schedule.
We are also occasionally able to host small groups from educational institutions outside of MIT, including middle schools and high schools, who wish to try their hand at letterpress printing. Please e-mail MIT History Professor Jeffrey Ravel, one of the Press’s co-directors, to inquire about an educational visit to the Beaver Press.
